It's your money.

Test drive it. If you like it, buy it.

i have a cayman and personally, if i were to do it again, i would have opted for a 911. at the price i got my cayman for though, it would have been a 996 and the interior on a 996 is something i can't live with.

if you can get a new cayman, i'd say to find a late model 911s instead. imho.
Why? The only thing more appealing about the 911 is the engine.

to me, the 911 also looks better and the rear shelf allows my wife to be able to recline her seat all the way back on longer drives.

@mwy23

Same here. I'd opt for a 911 (particularly a 997) over a Cayman or a Boxster. I know the standard response is "Have you driven ..." and "Mid-engine layout ...", but I know what I prefer

the mid-engine layout does make the car feel more nimble and balanced vs. a 911 but if you're daily driving with occasional track use, then i'd go w/ a 911. on the flip-side, if i were a track junkee, i'd probably get an elise.

OP: if you do opt for PDK, make sure you get the sports chrono pack. its pretty worthless on a 6speed but for PDK, its a necessity. i'd also opt for PASM (the 10mm drop you get when activating PASM makes the ride height perfect, of course imho).

Oh yes sports chrono is a MUST w/ PDK, no doubt about it
I'm also probably getting the PASM--the 10mm drop is actually always present, the car doesn't raise/lower depending on whether it's activated or not (common misconception that was cleared up on planet-9.com)

Regarding the 911---I actually like the Cayman looks better, and the newer Cayman S performs about equal to the entry level 911's at a much lower price point, so it's a no-brainer for me

if i had a choice to leap from s2k to cayman S, i would do it in a heartbeat...
question is: i know you can buy one, but can you afford one...?
i heard the price of maintenance is pretty hefty... especially tires...

and im with OP... maybe its a small circle, but i think the cayman looks better than the 911...

I think Lazymashi posted something but for some reason I can't seem to understand what he posted.
for that matter, what's this thread about again?
