The 924, maybe, but the 944 ad 968 are STILL thought of us some of the best handling cars of all time. Only badge snob "the only real Porsche is an air-cooled rear engined one" fags look down on them, enthusiasts hold them in VERY high regard.
Well, I've always liked the 944, and the 968 especially. The 968 is a damn good-lookin' car.

I can sort of understand why they're looked down upon. They sort of watered down the Porsche name. Not much, but just a bit. Plus, they were the antithesis of what the 911 was: they were much more traditional in layout, if not in looks.

I'd offer $500 for both, if they're just rotting in someone's backyard.

The one with the aftermarket wheels looks like it has an S4 spoiler (different tail lamps, restyled interior, 4v head, 5.0 litre engine, etc).

You guys had an S3 (old shape body with the 4v head), I think that Aus went straight from the S2 to the S4

***Whoops. Just had another look and now it doesn't look like the squarer S4 rear end.

I have known two people that owned 928's and both had the same opinion.. biggest money sucker ever invented. Constant expensive maintenance required. I would hope they rot away in peace.

All 8 of the people who bought one would probably agree, but the other 300mm people in this country have never heard of it.

I do remember reading a funny quote about the Biturbo in the Car and Driver Car-A-Day calendar a few years ago, something about how a ride in the Biturbo is always an adventure, since you never know when you will get to take a brisk walk to a phone after an engine fire.

some other magazine said it was the perfect car to leave for your ex-wife.... you look like a hero leaving a "MASERATI", but you know it won't ever run and will cost her a pile of $ to maintain.

My dad had a '79 928 to replace his '72 911T. Very comfortable, quite fast for its time, not very tossable but still fun to autocross. A complete money pit. I remember two failures in particular - the first was the alternator during a road trip. It was at night and I recall everything getting dimmer and dimmer... We ended up staying in some tiny town for a couple days waiting for a part to get shipped. The other was the transmission while we were at a red light. I had to get out and help push the darn thing to a parking lot, where a guy with a tow rope in a pickup was kind enough to drag us home - fortunately we were only about a mile away. IIRC, he put in an '83 transmission which was much better. It was certainly a money pit until replaced by an '86 911 Carrera. Awesome back seats, though.

I've also owned a 944 race car, and it was easily the best handling car I've tracked. I'm not one of those "many" who look down on those cars.

I've always though it'd be nice to have a '95 928 GTS as a luxury car, given enough money. $82k or so when new, the fastest Porsche of the time, and one of the fastest GTs of the time.
