2002 S2K vs. 2007 Civic Si
Hi everyone,
New to the board, some great discussions out here. Looking to buy a "new" car, trading out my '91 240SX. A little background, am planning on buying a 2009 Nissan Z when it's available (my brother works for Nissan). However, I need a car now. Looking at a used MY02 S2K (about 18-20K) vs. a new Si (21K at least). The S2K will likely be sold for the Z at some point in 2009. However, if I bought an Si, that would likely be my solid car for a good 5 years at least (if not longer). Wondering if anyone had any opinions on what they would do (it'll probably be an obvious answer since this is an S2K forum...) Thanks.

First, see if you can afford having an S2000. Owning an S2000 can get exensive: the insurance, the TIRES. If you are barely affording an S2k, then i would say go for the brand new Si, even though the S2k is better than an Si by a long shot.
Although now that i think about it, the difference in price might offset having higher maintenance and more $$ for tires on the S2000. So if you can afford the S2000, by all means get it over the Si, unless you carry a lot of passengers around (have you taken factors like that into consideration?)

If you can, I'd get the S2000. It'll be an awesome car, and by 2009 you'll probably have it paid off and you won't want to trade it in for the Z. At that point it'll be time for a track car

i'm assuming the MY09 Z comes out fall of 2008? That's only 2 years? Why not just keep the 200sx for a couple more years?? switching cars in 2 years will be an expensive option. But if you really must I'd choose the S2000, should depreciate less than a brand new Si......

i say the S2000. someone mentioned it not depreciating much...for comparison, i bought my MY03 in march of '05. in a year and a half and 22k miles later, the value on kbb has only gone down $800. you'll get much more enjoyment out of an S2000...the only problem is that you might not want that Z in 2 years.
