Thumbs up 2007 BMW X3 SI

Family wants an SUV for another country. I hate SUVs but will rarely be driving it; only on vacations.

So I thought about SUVs that drive like cars and came up with the 2006-2008 Forester XT and the 2007+ BMW X3 SI.

I know there's the FX35 but EVERYONE has one.

My father likes the X3 idea but he's never driven it and I warned him that the ride might be stiffer than he thought.

Anyone here own an X3 with the 260HP engine?

the X3 isn't even made by BMW so the craftsmanship isn't "BMW like".

If that doesn't bother you, then by all means...

What do you mean it's not made by BMW? Because it's made in Austria?

They're built by Magna, a contract mfg. who also will be taking over production of the Cayman/Boxster at some point over the next few years.

The X5 is much better, and isn't much pricier. We've got a X5 35d. It's wonderful, ~30mpgs on the highway.

* It replaced an X3 which was only 6 months old before it got the boot.

Too stiff, too small, no where near the quality for the money.

I vote for the Forester XT. Does the same job just as well or better than (IMO) the X3.

RDX for the bang for the buck and a touch of class.

I like the RDX but I have read/heard that it gives 17-18 MPG!

That's nuts for such a small SUV.
