Default 2008 Smart ForTwo

Has anyone driven a new ForTwo yet at one of the SmartUSA road shows, which started back in May? As a microcar lover, I've read tons of articles and reviews, plus some reactions from the road show test drives and displays. Post here if you've driven one of the new Smarts (not interested in the grey-markets cars with MB turbo engine) with the tiny 71-hp Mitsu 3-banger!

Not yet but I would very much like to drive one of them. I want to hear what people have to say also.

Saw a bunch of these up in Canada on vacation last week. They are SMALL! Very cool, though. 70 mpg highway, I believe, and pretty crash resistant despite their size.

I went to the smart roadshow when it was in town, and drove one. It does not feel or drive like such a tiny car. It had decent pickup and go, and the brakes were very good. They say it has a top speed of 90 and will easily do 75 on the freeway. My complaint with them is the transmission shifts terribly slow, and while official gas mileage numbers haven't been given the people there were saying to expect between 40-50mpg. Now for $14k for the top end non-vert model I'd probably be looking at fit's or yaris' due to their greater size and power and somewhat comparable gas mileage. But then again, people buy a Smart are likely buying it because it's a Smart.

Note: The cars they are using are eurospec cars.

Awesome cutout pictures. While I still wouldn't trust this thing in a head-on with a Suburban, it's still impressively built/strong.

I would not take it on the busy highway. unless they really want to test the crash resistant

I don't think I'd be doing much of my own maintenance in there.
