2010 Camaro SS vs 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 Drag Race
It's not an official race at a track with lights, times, etc. but it still gives you an idea of what the 5.0 is all about. Looks pretty damn good.

This drag race blows. Yeah, the new Stang may be a TOUCH faster than the Camaro SS, but it sure as heck isn't that big of a difference as evidenced on the video.

Yeah it does kind of blow plus they are both automatics. Can't wait to see two manuals go at it with good drivers.
For the Mustang to be over a half second and 8mph faster in the 1/8 mile just proves this test was a bunch of crap.
Also, from what I've read to date, the LS3 can be modified to add much more power with bolt-ons than the Mustang will be able to achieve, though that remains to be determined. My LS3 made 435rwhp at a conservative dyno this past Saturday with only intake, headers, exhaust, and tune. I was pretty happy.
Either way, it's good to see the Mustang back with a competitive powerplant!

Yeah, it's going to be a good race with two competent drivers. It almost looks like the Camaro driver was sandbagging to make the Mustang look better. Numerous mag tests have put the automatic SS Camaro at very low 13's at 109-110mph. The only time I've seen for the Mustang GT (six-speed manual, I believe) is 12.9 at 112mph. So, they are very closely matched.

That first video was a bit off IMO but dont underestimate the GT my friend.
Keep in mind this is a different Mustang GT than M/T tested last week. This one is equipped with the all glass roof. This one is almost a half second faster through the quartermile.
0 to 60mph- 4.4sec
1/4mi- 12.7@111
I spoke to a gentleman close to the project a while back. His company works closely with software development. He said Ford left an additional 30hp on the table available via tune and 93 octane. He has no reason to lie. He doesn't even drive a Ford. He has a modded record setting Stage 2 C63 AMG and Porsche 911 GT3. He just worked with them on the car. We had a pretty detailed discussion over the internals and architecture of the Coyote vs. the M3's V8 powerplant. He said port angles, valve sizing, etc aren't on par with BMW's N/A jewels but for a domestic 4v V8 it's pretty much the cats ass, especially at that price. This guy was talking about close 440 crank hp 4 months ago. He's legit. Ford carried this out to a T.

The LS3 was introduced in 2008. Good of Ford to finally come up with a competitive powerplant THREE YEARS LATER. Look, I love this new 5.0 and if I was in the market for a Mustang or Camaro, I would definitely take a long hard look at the Mustang and probably even pick one up over the Chevy.
But to think this 5.0L motor is significantly better than the LS3 just isn't accurate IMO. I also firmly believe the LS3 can make more power more easily than the 5.0, but that remains to be determined definitively.
