Here's Car & Driver's 2009 Lightning Lap report, which was done on the same Grand Course configuration of VIR.

So a GT500 laptime of 2:58 puts it pretty close to Corvette, GTR, and R8 laptimes. C&D got a 3:05.9 and 3:07.4 for their older-model GT500s. They got a 3:15.0 for the S2000 CR.

Not taking anything away from the Mustang, it's a great car and i'm sure very fast, but comparing it to the list above is way to subjective. just look how all over the board those laptimes are. An elise SC is 7 seconds slower in 08' than a base elise was in 06'? C'mon that's ridiculous and the conditions/drivers make such a big difference in tests like this.
