The only thing I think I like about the new one are the steering wheel and it seems like its going to have a pretty good sound system.

I would never even consider buying one tho.

I bought a 2005 at the very end of 2004, it was a nice car for the money. Had a lot of features you wouldn't expect to see at the $17K price point. It was basically loaded. The motor was "peppy" but a little rough (I also owned a Turbo'd Civic at the time so it didn't bother me then) I didn't buy it because it was "fun" or anything that a car person would be motivated to buy it for. I ended up with it because at the time I was like everyone else: It's a high value, inexpensive car with Toyota pedigree. I can get a decent car with decent features, with a drive I can live with - and Toyota reliability.

There's things you learn when you own it though. I kept on wanting to put it in the 6th gear it didn't have. I know the S2000 run high RPM's cruising in it's top gear, but it's not the same raucous that the tC is. The S2000 is "noise" whereas the tC was noise and buzzing. It got to the point I avoided getting on the highway. The seats were terrible as far as lateral support. I didn't expect it to be a sports car but ending up in my passengers lap on a quick left turn wa unacceptable. The car begs to be modded since it seems it's shortcomings are "correctable" in the Scion accessory catalog. But in 2005 if I had done that I might as well have bought a RSX-S

I traded the car in 34 days later on a 2005 S2000.

POS. It sucks that there's going to be even more of these crappy cars on the road. The TC is the new Civic and it is wack.

No idea why people are hating on the styling. It's a slight evolution of the first generation and looks great. I'm sure Toyota aimed at keeping it recognizable as a Tc. Based on the comments here you'd swear they did a E39->E60.

when it comes to car styling i always say reserve judgement until you see it in person. while its not revolutionary which the the 1st gen tC wasn't anyway this 2nd gen actually looks nice for its price point. but like i said the drive for a sub $18-19k is very nice compared to the what's available new at the price.

also, we have to look at whose going to purchase this car. one, a majority most likely will be between the ages of 17-25 who will be buying or have someone help buying their first new car. two, they're not ethusiasts but would like something that looks sporty but can be fun to drive based on their definition of fun to drive. three, price-price-price, you can't argue what you get standard in any of the Scions for the price.

i saw an interesting company report a few years back about first wave Scion tC owners when it came time to add or replace their Scions. over 50% got a toyota or lexus model but a not so big percentage but still an eye opener ended up with a VW, Audi or BMW as their next car. i'm pretty sure all of us didn't start with a sports car as their first new car.
