2019 California Aftermarket Exhaust

I know we are just nine days into 2019, but had anyone experience the new aftermarket law fine of ranging from $300 to $1000 here in California?

Sounds exciting.

There are a lot of things to like about California, this isn't one of them.

The only difference is that now it is not a fix-it ticket anymore.

I am guessing authorities are going to carry a decibel meter?

Wow - cause no one in California has an aftermarket exhaust!

Its sad that it has come down to this where even our own cars are denied freedom of speech.

This is a dumb law, but objects don't get freedom of speech and noise limits do not restrict freedom of speech. Don't be so dramatic

This law came about mostly because of extremely loud bikes(straight exhaust) but its written up as "a motor vehicle" so it covers all.
When some push the limits or just flat blow through them then the law will get involved.

From my read the law is the same as before other than you get an immediate fine if too loud: fixing the noise will no longer fix ticket. Doesn't appear to limit your choices to just OEM but none can exceed 95dBA using their tests -- which the lil YouTube video I linked shows how to do.

Police are always looking for Alpha-Hotel drivers and loud exhaust (or audio) have provided them with lots of them they can detect blocks away. Other AH driving will attract them and depending on your AH-level when dealing with them they can easily add the noise on to the charges.

If you have an AH exhaust and fear a ticket fix it. Heck in the video it appears they even got the Invidia Q300 down below 95dBA. But I'm convinced the police are looking for dangerous drivers and noise is way down their list of things to check.

BTW, when you get a 78 to 0 vote on the floor of the Assemble you won't get this law overturned.
