Yeah, I know what the car is.

This is a S1 Miata with the boost turned up to 16psi to make 300whp, some 245 A7s, an OSG diff, home made front splitter, and a larger APR wing.

^^^ Sure, looks fast But doesn't really do anything for me without something to compare to. I assume that's one of the best unlimited builds for a miata or you wouldn't be representing it, so whats its best time at Atlanta?

it's faster than what any s2000 has run at that track. The next closest boosted s2000 is a 1:45 unlimited build on hankook c91s.

also, big bad wolf is hardly representive of what your typical s2k owner will build... with the money dumped into that car, you could buy an older 997 cup car. It's easily north of $120k.

@white98ls most of my points were as a direct response to junky in defense of the ND2 rather than to detract from the Elise.

As far as the s2000 is concerned. I'm a fanboy but have no illusions of engineering progress. Realistically, as someone mentioned, the ND2 really is the first viable new car offering that fills the spot that the s2000 vacated when it was discontinued.

there market has not offered an elise/exige replacement, at least not for the US...

I think we need to get miata guy and big bad wolf out on the same track together for a run off

My point was that you can go buy off the shelf parts from Supermiata and Trackspeed Engineering and basically have a car capable of winning a GTA Unlimited class event with a different set of tires and some home built aero after you asserted that a Miata can't hang.

Autocross 2018 National Results

I'm sure this will be discounted since it is an autocross but it is the closest quantitative data I'm aware of. I'm also not sure of the specs of miata at all. Check out page 44/65 for SSM class results. There's also a lot more to the story than s2000 vs. miata here that we can only speculate on.

So that I'm not a complete troll and adding fuel to this fire... I'm still an S2000 owner but am thrilled that mazda made the ND. The NC never appealed much to me but I'm thrilled that mazda made a 2300 lb. affordable car in the modern era. That is incredibly impressive and it looks pretty darn good too. I'm not in a position to entertain owning a 20k+ depreciating toy at this point so I'm not their representative market. I haven't driven one yet and am not sure I'd give up the s2k for one but only time will tell once prices diverge a bit. The additional revs and power definitely make the package significantly more appealing.

Hardly the same comparison. It would be more of the blacktrax build that I posted as an equivalent spec build to compare to that miata.

Big bad wolf is built on a completely different scale budget.

So... using an unlimited build as a basis of an argument. I see this is going to be a fruitful discussion.

Its absolutely fair, platform to platform, which one has the more capable chassis to build on? That's all i care about, not sanctioned class racing, but rather unlimited class racing and time attack. Its the only way to understand the capabilities of the platform of any car. Auto x i could care little about, it always favors lighter and speeds are slower so there is less forces at play at 40-70mph vs 140-170mph and engineering required to make that manageable.

Listen, no doubt the Miata has proven itself to have a place in the pecking order, its just not on my list for my needs and don't ever seeing a stock or highly modified one competing for my interest against my highly modified wide body s2k. After a better part of 15 years of building on the s2k platform, sometimes I forget i'm comparing my personal s2k to a stock miata or any miata. It would simply be a downgrade for me and what im used to. My personality type as a driver, is I get bored and continue to look for ways t up the performance of the car to keep me interested, and the s2k platform lends itself extremely well to that endeavor. Not too mention the pure joy of its driving dynamics, even with its numb electronic steering. I love the simple and driver focused interior as well. When I sit in a new miata I feel like im still sitting in a civic or Subaru. The s2k isnt as low slung in seating to dash perspective as the NSX but its never the less a good seating position for me to cruise on the street or attack the track and accommodate my body size.
