That's pretty good gains for just a mid-pipe and the ND1 picked up more by doing headers and tune than that.

Not to mention it peaks at 4,000rpm rather than 6,500 in the AP2.

Just thought about something recently... if I'm not mistaken, a bone-stock K20 (ie: Civic Si and RSX Type-S) makes about 170-180whp and 130wtq. And a bone-stock K24 TSX makes about the same, but more torque, about 150-160wtq. (these are realist and stock numbers... not the crackhead numbers ricers always say (200-220whp "stock" but not really stock, lol)

So, this ND2 is basically almost like a lightweight EG/EK/EF/DC with a nice K-swap... except RWD! (not to mention.. also brand-new, smog legal, modern comfort and amenities, etc.)

Exactly. I don't see why more people aren't more interested in this. It's almost as fast as an s2000, comes in a coupe version, and does it using less fuel, tires, and brakes, but still has all the modern creature comforts. Only downer though is nowadays 0-60 in the 5s is actually pretty pedestrian. Hot hatches like the Type R and Golf R are cheaper and faster than a ND RF with the brembo pack.

Nonetheless, I do plan on test driving one, and if the current ND is indicative of future values, they should be discounting them in no time.

0-60 in the 5's is faster than anyone will/could ever need.

I've driven cars that do 0-60 in the mid-4's, I get no more enjoyment from that than I do the 5.5-6 in the AP1.

The Grand Tour made the Fiat version of this car sound decent. Has anyone compared? They described it as being built on the same chassis and turbocharged, so it should be easy to add some power if you feel that is what the car is missing.

The Fiat has a turbocharged engine - completely different! However, the ND Miata does respond very well to bolt-ons. It won't make the same kinds of gains as the Fiat and it's turbo, though.

As a potential buyer, I'll share you my thoughts. And it comes down to this:

2019 ND Miata - Feat of engineering
Honda S2000 - Feat of engineering (beyond its time) and most importantly, it was built with a sense of passion that I just don't see with the new Miata

They're both fantastic cars, but the Honda S2000 just do more to my senses.

The thing the s2000 didnt do was achieve the lightness the ND has. This engine also bridges the gap. Have you driven the 2019?

I get people are still in love with the S2000 and we are talking about what Mazda has achieved almost 20 years later, but you get S2000 like hp to weight, you get a bespoke platform that is nearly Lotus Elise like in it's weight but with more torque per pound than the S2000, modern creature comforts and at a starting price almost $10k LESS than the S2000 debuted at 20 years ago. If that is not an achievement I don't know what is. Especially when there are few fun affordable RWD cars these day, let alone ones that offer a manual. You can also cruise at around 40mpg in real world highway driving.
