Within reason yes. A well sorted 2600lb500whp wide body S2k with a good tire width/compound is pretty hard to beat in the right hands. The disadvantage of the S is no sophisticated driving aids, so its going to require someone that can drive. I appreciate that of course being a driving enthusiast. Your not going to be able to spec out a ND to that level. Great cone dodger though.

And yes it does. 14 years of ownership and experience giving back to the s2k community, not the miata community.

That's why there are a ton of Miata forums. Miata.net was cranky old dudes who bloviate on every topic, Clubroadster was pretty normal folks with a nice variety of things, Mazdaroadster was a spinoff of Clubroadster and MiataTurbo was performance/DIY dork focused.

Source: I had an NA Miata prior to my AP1.
Yeah, I have witnessed that myself. I like the Miata and all, but it is what it is. About half the membership think it is the greatest thing since the dawn of time.

Chuck lights the OP's topic on fire, and s2000junky pushes it over a cliff. Par for the course, I'm afraid.

Anyways, I'm curious to know how Mazda extracted more power out of that motor. From what I understand, it's pretty fuel limited due to the direct injection system not being good for much more above the factory power output. That's really my only big problem with the car; the chassis is excellent, the interior is excellent, it looks great, drives great, but the motor is kind of a dud if you want more than 200whp.

It was some lighter weight internals allowing for a higher redline and some better breathing that created the power. I really don't know about fuel limitations. I was following the introduction of the Edelbrock SC kit for the ND and I am not sure if it comes with a pump and bigger injectors. That kit has had some surging issues with the tune.

I personally haven't seen one of these cars make over 220whp, regardless of whether it has an aftermarket forced induction kit installed or not. From what I've been told, the DI system is the limiting factor. I'm curious to see if the aftermarket will ever develop a port injection solution for this motor.

220 whp sounds really fun in an ND. That's a 50% increase over stock.

Anyone know if that screen that sits in the center of the dash can retract and be tucked away?

220 whp, normally aspirated? Ain't no one adding 50% more power unless they're doing a complete motor build with a totally new crank, lighter pistons and con rods, improved valvetrain, upgraded fuel system and a bunch more other stuff. You're talking about a race motor, essentially.
