before you jump into a bimmer or porsche, check out maintenance... i know an alternator on a boxster costs something like 2k to replace...

+1 for Elise!
What absurd logic are you using? You "know" its $2k for an alternator for a Porsche? Sure, its Bosch, but come on... and with that logic, a Lotus would be cheaper? Alternator would probably be $4k because it extra light...

what is this clam thing ur talking about on lotus?
There's clams in the engine which take the place of traditional camshafts. More efficient. And, you got dinner when one of those suckers decides to stop working. Win, win.

If you're only *just* getting out of debt, doesn't that only give you something just above zero for a down payment?

You might try living *without* debt for a while! Just because you can get a loan for a $30k car doesn't mean you "*should*!

What would you guys jump into if you had 30k to spend?!
What I'd buy if I truly had $30k to spend would be very different from what I'd buy if I only had a few thousand for a downpayment...

I sez: get a used S2000 or Miata and have some fun for a LOT less $$$

Bear in mind that with either an NSX or an Elise (especially in the used realm) "readily repairable" damage on your run of the mill car will quickly escalate to totalling either one due to their construction.
