30k mile service on my 00' Accord V6

Just completed 30k mile service and the tech said my rear brakes were gone.

I was like huh... how are the front brakes? He said the fronts are fine.

I'm like huh? how can the front brakes be fine and the rears be gone? Is there a bias prob?

He replied the rear brake pads on the Accord are organic as not to squeak much and they tend to wear very fast.

I'm like HUH? so they walked me over and I looked at them with and there was still about 2 " of pad left. I told them they look OK to me. don't touch them besides for 180 bucks I'll replace the pads myself thank you.

Are they blowing smoke up my a$$ or is this a common thing for Accords?

Oh BTW the car has 30k miles many of them are highway miles.

I have a 95 Accord V6 and I think I've only had brakes done once so far (have 97k now), but I don't remember when that was. It sure doesn't seem logical that the rear would wear first, but I know they told me automatics run through brakes much faster than sticks, which is all I had before. Maybe they put in better pads when I got mine done before. Sorry can't be of more help. Maybe you could call another dealer or Honda shop and ask 'em.

Hmmm. . .I don't know but it seems to me they should last alittle longer. My wife's '01 Accord EXVL has a squeling brake problem when the pads are COLD. The Honda dealer says this is normal. I think not. . .

Her '97 and '99 Accord never had this problem. So, we have yet to have them repaired or replaced. . .all with about 7k miles on her car!:(

I think your dealer is BS big time ... My 00 Accord V6 VTEC has at least 60,000KMs on it and I don't even recap the last time I changed the brake pads on all 4s. Not yet anyway ...

I had a 98 Accord EX-V6 Coupe before the S2000 and had to replace the rear pads at 15K. I drove it pretty hard for a family car, but I was shocked at how quickly they wore out. My service advisor told me exactly the same thing as you about them being organic. The replacement pads they had back then were not even exact replacements, they were semi-metallic. I went to PepBoys and spent $16 on pads and went on about my business. The rears do so little work I wasn't too worried about having mediocre pads back there.

I think that should be a warranty item shouldn't it. It only has 30K on it and it is new enough that the 3 yr 36K mile warranty should still be intact.

I have the exact same care 00 Accord V6 and just did the 30,000 mile service. I had more pad left in the rear than the front exactly as you expect. None of the pads needed to be replaced.
