'97 Del Sol(B16) or '01 BMW Z3 3.0
I had to sell my beloved '06 Rio Yellow geared(4.44)S to access equity $$
to fix my over-the-road big truck to continue making a living... now I have left over cash..I cant decide between a '97 Del Sol with the 160HP B16 VTEC engine..just don't know how dissapointed I will be coming from an S... my other choice is an '01 BMW Z3 with the 225 HP/220 lbft 3.0 engine..good news its close to weight balance of an S(51/49) not that heavy(2900 lbs.) but the bad its an automatic! I would like to stay in the Honda family..and the hope is within a year I will have another S..just need somethig to hold me over until then..the Del Sol is $4700. and the BMW $10,000 which intriques me with all that torque at 3500 rpms!! any opinions from former owners?...both are bone stock. |
I would go for the del sol :)
2300 lbs with 160HP is not that bad :D |
Hopefully I'm not pointing out the obvious, but why not just get an AP1 for $10k? They are out there, though it may take time to find one in decent condition at that price point. This time of year should help.

I was going to ask the same thing as Syn...why not consider an AP1 if you have $10k to play around with?
Also, remember that the 3.0 z3 is a bit heavier than 2900 lbs. I just searched google and found 3185 lbs for the 3.0 model. I think after owning an s2000, both of these cars will leave you feeling a bit unimpressed. However, the del sol will do it for a much cheaper price, with a manual gearbox, and (more than likely) better reliability. The del sol is much lighter and will give you more of the go-kart feel you are used to. Given the power/weight ratio, the del sol could quite possibly be as fast, or faster, than the z3. One major thing to take into account is that the del sol is swapped, so it is only as reliable as the craftsmanship put into it. However, BMW isn't exactly known for great reliability either. |

You are trying to decide between a 15 year old car and a 11 year old car and a $5300 price difference? If you have to sell your 06 in order to have money to fix your truck, I'd suggest buying the least expensive car you can and saving whatever money you have left for future repairs for your truck. |

No...it's not a swapped B16 in the Del Sol..completely OEM..
and the owner told me the weight is indeed 2522 which I saw listed curb weight somewhere else. And..I really don't want an AP1..I had an '06 for 3 years and I loved my AP2 so I want to wait a bit and cherry pick my dream S...would be prolly an '04-'05 Silver with red interior..no spoiler and V1's with side strakes..of course clean and hopefully under 65K miles. Can we keep my finances out of this..I just wanted opinions/choices between the Del Sol and the BMW..of course I'm leaning towards the Honda in that it would be most "go-kart" like and would want to be revved hard..but after owning an S for 3 years I find the BMW torque very appealing..ya know..a 3.0 ltr. 6 banger! |
So you would rather drive a del sol because you just dont want an ap1. lolwtf?
Why are these cars your only two options? |
Automatic tranny is the nail in the coffin in this debate.
