Actually, go to purepwnage.com

It's a video series about gamers. Now they pronounce it just as if it was spelled "Owned". Not to say that is definitive proof, as I've personally heard it both way (been a gamer for a lil while.)

just out of curiosity, what does this have to do with car talk??
well, not a lot but i see these used a lot on the forums. there were some that I couldn't figure out or look up that some seemed specific to cars but in actuality, it seems a lot of these have roots in online gaming. I'm not much of a gamer so I had no idea...

I appreciate everyone's input!

(hope that's right)

I've been pretty active in the sub-culture of the internet since it's inception. I was an IRC kiddy back before the interweb got it's legs and have seen the growth of all these slang terms over time, especially over the last few years as more and more people spend time socializing online and catch onto the various terms.

It's true that most of the current slang terms have spawned from games but the real origins of "leet speak" date all the way back to bulletin boards, when ASCII was one of the few creative outlets.

TADTS = They All Do That, Sir. I'm not sure of the origin or even the proper usage, however.
