I keep seeing that comment...
It's from American Pie, the movie (the first one that came out several years ago).

It's getting old IMO.

I keep seeing that comment (but not necessarily in my threads ) - is it from a book or movie or something?

I'm guessing it means "...and some day pigs will fly" or something along those lines.
yes, you are right on the money.. I mean seriously.. In this world of extra security and metal needed on every car... I find it EXTREMELY unlikely that they could manage to get the car that light.

Cars are getting heavier and heavier as manufacturers keep adding things left and right not only to please the consumer, but to please the various governmental agencies around the world.

I'm with you on that. As stated in the first post, I don't think they'll hit 1600 lbs - that's 400 under an Elise and an Elise is BARE. Heck - you're almost as light as a Caterham 7 and that has a lot less bodywork, a small (tiny) chassis, and dinky wheels and tires.

Don't really watch movies (no TV) so it makes sense that it'd be from a movie.

In my defense, I did watch "Free Willy" on my computer with my daughter a few weeks ago. She's only three and she got all sad when they put him into captivity and he started his "crying" sounds. I don't think there were any lines worth quoting in there, unless you occasionally break out into a slightly shrill, keening sound when you are home alone in the swimming pool or something.

yes, i believe their will be saabstice coming out in the future..i saw a pic of it in a car mag somewhere.

as for that audi, i would imagine they would have to put quattro on it. 2000 lb car with 4wd sounds really fun.

Opel got it...

Its the Opel GT (they get the turbo version only) Why someone chose a Kappa car to photoshop into an Audi I will never understand.

Speaking generically (e.g. not debating whether the Audi will actually hit its weight and power targets), a 1600 lb. car that does 0-60 in 6.x seconds will be way more fun to drive than a 3000 lb. car that does 0-60 in 5.x seconds.

A reasonable analogy would be S2000 vs. BMW 550i. The BMW will be quicker in a straight line, but the S2000 will be way more agile and fun to drive than the much heavier BMW.
