In the latest issue of the infamous Car and Driver (), there are 2 comparos including Audi's latest offerings:

bold-type face denotes winner

First Comparo:
BMW M5 / Audi RS6 / Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG / Jaguar S-type R

Second Comparo:
BMW M3 / Audi S4 (4.2) / Mercedes-Benz C32 AMG

That's such

I'll have to check this one out. It seems like they just take the newest car and make it win every time.

I use to respect that mag too.

What I find ridiculous is the new S4 weighing 470 lbs. !!! more than the M3. Even though it has a V8 with about 10 more hp, and 40-50 more lb.-ft. of torque it is still slower than the M3. And how do you justify charging $85K for the RS6 ? It used to be that Audi was a few thousand less than the Merc. & BMW comparable model but now the M5 (and probably even the new M5) and the E55 (which smoked the competition across the board) are cheaper. The S4 is still decently priced at $45K but it is just tragic that it is near 4000 lbs.

I am really looking at this as a replacement (s4) because I have a kid on the way, and need the back seat. But The M3 is just so nice.

Starting to remind me of an infomercial. This is the latest and greatest *blah* *blah* *blah*. How embarassing.... I guess that's how you get car companies to give you free stuff. Perhaps manufacturers have decided to let it go and assume that they will be "fair" to everyone. I'm sure BMW is being promised a great review for the new M5 against whatever they feel like throwing in there when it comes out.

Well, BMW won't need to bribe the mags to give them a great review. We all know the E60 500hp V10-equipped M5 will own all.

True, but what i was eluding to was the fact that BMW is probably ok with giving up an M3/M5 for their comparo in which they lost to the Audi because they expect the same fan fare about their new lineup. No doubt the new M5 is going to be a monster.

You've driven all the cars in question just like they have. What major points do you feel they were wrong on?

Yes, actually I have - save for the RS6 and S4 . And from what I hear the RS6 is an understeering pig, as is the S4. AWD will do that to you.

Welp, that's all I need to hear, they've clearly been bribed

BTW, Fanman, where does your S4 weight number come from? I've got 3415 lbs for the M3, and autoweek shows 3660 for the (AWD, 4 door) S4 V8. That's piggy to be sure but still a lot less than the ~3900 pound number.
