re: the wheels, i read a post on audiworld recently whereby they claim that the wheels are designed to bend in extreme impacts to prevent the tire from blowing off or seperating form the wheel.

not sure which is the lesser evil...

For the same 2 reasons we don't get the Skyline, the Evo7 (for now), the WRX Sti, and other "hot rods".

1) Whatever no-talent ass clowns that are doing marketing research for the U.S. are telling the execs that there is no interest in that type of car over here. [drooling sarcasm] Of course, any REAL american would want a gas guzzling V8 sports car that weighed 2 tons [/drooling sarcasm]

2) Because of how the US does testing to allow cars in the states, they'd have to give up 3-5 vehicles to be destroyed (crash testing, emissions testing, etc) with little to no guarantee of recouping that cost. Even though the RS4 is no different than an A4 avant as far as crashing goes, it'd have to be (re)tested.

Takashi & Le Car: an RS4 would be called a sleeper because nobody expects it to be fast. "Oh, it's just an Audi station wagon" - with 380 hp. A wolf in sheep's clothing, so to speak.

i'm gonna be a first time dad in a couple of months and opted for the S8.

we looked at a bunch of wagons, but i just couldn't see myself in one (don't even know if the RS4 is/was available).

...and the S8 really is a deceivingly nimble car.

we've had it for a couple of months and are totally lovin' it!

regards.

Well maybe to my mother actually...
To you or I, no it doesn't look like a sleeper. But to most people? I doubt that the average car driver could distinguish an RS4 from an A4 Avant, just like many people mistake the S2000 for a Boxster or a Z3 (even though they are completely different cars). And if you were a police officer cruising the streets and saw one, chances are all you'd see was an A4 station wagon - not a 380HP version of the A4. Thus I think the sleeper title fits it appropriately.
