Best Beater for 10K or less
#21
What would you buy for a good daily beater that can also serve for occasional track duty for 10K? RWD or AWD.
I just bought a 97 Miata a month ago for this purpose but it's too darn slow in a straight line after driving my other cars.
Thinking S2000 is the next candidate. Maybe RX-8 (bad gas mileage), older Boxster S, E36 M3, Bugeye WRX? I've owned a S2000, RX-8 and E36 M3 sedan before so I know what those are like.

I would buy an 03 - 04 G35 Sedan if your looking for more than 2 seats. It would make a great track car! This car is much more stable and it is lighter than a 350Z. It also has a ton of aftermarket parts and can be had for 8 to 10k all day long in the 6 speed manual. Go drive one and drive it hard, you will see what I am saying. Do not get me wrong I love my S2000 but miss my G sedan. I used to fit all 4 wheels wraped with R-comps in the trunk. I could also take all my spare parts and a friend with me to events. This can not be done in the S2000 unless you tow or pull a trailer.
I had an E36 M3 at the exact same time I had the G. Yes, I sold the BMW as the power was better in the G. The weight was about the same. The BMW would require so much more to upkeep.

I'd love to find an AP1 with under 100k miles for 10. The pricing on them is ridiculous even in the winter. Honestly just supercharge the Miata and be done. Close to 200 HP and it's still a reliable car.

Itd have to be between the e36m3 or ap1 for me. I test drove an e36m3 and the motor on that thing was sublime! Its like an ap1 with backseats, reliability on the other hand, honda all the way.

Thoughts on an 05 with 150K miles for 10K? Yellow/black, good overall condition, stock with a minor rear ended fender bender on the carfax. My 00 had 145K when I sold it and was still running perfectly.

You need to look in the midwest/KC area...you see them in that price range (8k-10k) with less than 120k often...almost 2 per week.
