I ordered my Elise yesterday. One of the first things i'm planning on doing is to black out the wheels. What is the best way to do this? By the way i went with Arctic Silver with the Sport Package (adjustable height bilsteins, A048R tires, wider lighter wheels).

They last a lot longer if you pay to powdercoat them. It's just more expensive.

Dam, it cost me $450 to get my rims powder coated. The cost was in part to the very exacting prep treatment (multiple chemical treatments followed by a light bead blast and final chemical soak). Powder coating is only as good as the prep work to get the original paint/powdercoat off. I probably payed a bit to much but it was done right.

just to insert my opinion... painting is what most stock wheels are... it is pretty much good enough in my opinion- my friend had his prelude rims painted and its been 5 years- they still look great!

Painting also allows more options- you can get metallic specks, basically whatever your heart desires.

Also, if you paint, you can get a touch-up bottle of the same paint-mix and touch up your wheels just in case you hit something.

But yea, bottom line, is that powdercoating is stronger- but is it really necessary??

Sen, I'll have to agree. I don't think powdercoated is a necessity at all. For the average $200 powdercoat job, you can buy a heck of a lot of paint.
