special effects ... since they were using the paddle shift F430, they wanted to reinforce the fact they were going fast so the director thought it would be a good idea to do that since they really couldn't show Colin Farrell slamming the shift knob into every single gear (like Nic Cage in "The Rock" with the F355 in the chase scene or Martin Lawrence in "Bad Boys" with the Porsche 911 TT) ... the use of the paddle shifter takes away from the intensity of the scene because all the driver has to do is flick the paddle

I saw the movie and noticed the same thing. I was wondering about it too.
At least they used a real Ferrari in this film, not like the Corvette / 365GTB replica used in the TV series.
It's not surprising that Colin Farrel's Sonny Crockett chose not to drive his F430 to the big gunfight scene at the end of the movie. I think he drove a BMW 650i instead???

So in theory, if I ran my S rich with straigh pipes in humid weather, I could get blue flames?

For what its worth, I was behind a Ferrari on a public road yesterday and everytime he would gun it from a light I would see the tailpipes light up with minor blue flames. I was wondering the same thing as the poster about the Miami Vice car.

ever see the end of Transporter 2? it was that scene that made me actually want paddle shifters if I got an exotic.

Has anyone seen the Best Motoring Video about the Lamborghini Gallardo?
There wer a few scenes on thw track where the gallardo had blue flames flickering away in like 3 secon intervals in downshifting.
It happens, no cgi.
There's countless footage of carera gt's doing the exact same.
