Blue painter's tape?
So, this is kind of off topic but I was wondering if taping up our cars with blue painter's tape on a long commute back from somewhere (24hrs+ highway) damage the paint/clear?? Do you rub the tape into the bumper or lightly stick it? Just never thought about doing this until now, and a lil confused.

Completely safe! Most of us use it for track events where the speeds are much higher than what you will be doing. We put it on the car on Friday and take it off on Sunday.
There is a pic on the net of a couple of guys driving cross country in a Silver S4 with blue tape covering the WHOLE vehicle. No issues. |
i use it too when i do road trips :) saves me from literally scrubbing the front bumper to get bugs off. not only that but less rock chips! if you get some get the 2 inch tape because the rest are too thin and will take you hours. you will need to really stick it to the bumper because it might get loose when your driving.

Well, if you eat copious amounts of it you may find yourself loopy.

blue will be fine...
If you're really worried about it buy the 3M green tape (3M 26340 is the 2" roll) as it is made specifically for auto body use. You can find it at any good local parts store that sells auto body supplies. http://www.tooltopia.com/_img/MMM/MMM2634012.jpg |
Also, go back to front, covering the previous tape with each layer, or the wind will peel the leading edges back and you'll watch tape fly everywhere as you drive down the freeway. Ask me how I know.

thanks for the responses guys. Picking up a new S ~1800miles away. i'll get pics up and introduce myself formally sometime next week :)

how do you know??
I turned I-80 blue on the way to Miller Motorsports Park. Got laughed at--justly so--since my new car had tatters of blue everywhere and overall looked like hell while being completely unprotected. Still had plenty of fun. |
