I would lease the 1 but buy the ILX.

Never thought I would say this ever but that Acura looks much better than that BMW.

128i is indeed on the short-list for a future spousemobile. If they made a 123i with a smaller (higher MPG, please) straight six and a 3-door hatch, and somehow 100lb lighter, I'd push for sooner rather than later. Not gonna happen.

ILX checks all the wrong boxes for us.
