Default Boring thread alert: The Cadillac SRX is better than the Acura RDX

WHOOPS! I meant to say XT5. They don't make the SRX anymore.

Not sure if anyone cares, but I was given a Cadillac XT5 as a loaner car the other day and it's really better in every way than my wife's RDX. The interior is way nicer, the handling is far better, the engine feels more torquey, the logic of the door locks and all of that is considerably better. I have always hated SUVs but this one drove far more like a car than any SUV I've driven.

What year is your RDX? The older turbo-charged one or the newer (softer) one with the V6?

I remember sitting in the SRX and finding it "bulky" and "heavy" in terms of the cabin and feel of things (typical GM characteristic), is the XT5 any different?

Been looking at SUV's the last few months, have you looked at the CX-9? For a loaded up car with all the options its better pricing than the Caddy, more storage space, it is down on power ultimately but it has great get up and go, might actually be faster in some respects, great fuel mileage.

Makes sense, really. They dumbed down the RDX for the masses for the 2013+ models. They added a V6 (no more turbo 4-cyl), took away SH-AWD (put in the lesser RealTime-esque system), softened the suspension...and sold way more of them.

The original was a pretty good hoot on the street, if you were willing to push it. Rougher, sure, but definitely decent handling for a small SUV. Uglier, though (to my eye) and supposedly pretty bad on fuel. The new one is faster and more refined but definitely not as sporty.

If I were buying a larger suv that would be my pick. LOVE the quality of the interior in the top of the line trim.

I looked at the 2nd gen CX-9 when I was shopping, and recently checked out a 3rd gen. They are very nice and drive nicely, but a lot of plastic inside, the third row is small/no legroom, and with it up, there really is no space in the back. I love the aggressive new nose on them and they look better than ever though.

I ended up with a Durango Citadel and it has been great, and I still recommend it. 90k mi so far - the only issues were a dead battery (5 years) and a failed alternator (due to dead battery). Take advantage of the MB roots!

To be fair, the 2015 RDX is based on a 2013 design, and it's not even the 2016 facelifted version, where Acura added more stuff to the car to make it more modern.

Also, the MSRP for the RDX starts from $36k and a fully loaded one is $44k.

The XT5 as per Cadillac website starts at $40k and goes all the way up to $65-$70k depend on options and packages. Granted at the higher end of the price spectrum, the XT5 has features that the RDX doesn't have. Nonetheless, a similarly equipped XT5 is still substantially more expensive than the RDX.

As per Car and Driver testing, the RDX is faster.

2016 RDX AWD:
2016 Acura RDX AWD Instrumented Test – Review – Car and Driver
Zero to 60 mph: 6.2 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 16.4 sec
Zero to 120 mph: 26.8 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 6.3 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 3.6 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 4.4 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.5 sec @ 96 mph

2017 XT5 AWD:
Cadillac XT5 Reviews - Cadillac XT5 Price, Photos, and Specs - Car and Driver
Zero to 60 mph: 6.6 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 17.8 sec
Zero to 120 mph: 30.2 sec
Rolling start, 5–60 mph: 7.0 sec
Top gear, 30–50 mph: 3.4 sec
Top gear, 50–70 mph: 4.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 15.2 sec @ 93 mph

The RDX is actually much quicker. The XT5 pulls higher g's and stop quicker though.

With all that said, even a fully loaded MDX sport hybrid advance is cheaper.

Interesting, I didn't look at the SRX when I was SUV shopping this spring, but I was also looking at older/cheaper models. I drove a 2010 RDX and really liked it, quick and agile for what it was. Really hated the center stack though, too much plastic and seemed cheap. I ended up buying an 08 Infiniti EX35, really like it and much preferred the interior. The new version seems nearly unchanged too.
