Broken Gear Shifter

I need some information, before i dove in, well i saw my gf's gear shifter (piece that puts it in drive/park/reverse) in her 92' corolla and it broken in half, (the stick broke below the gear box cover).
Her brother was mad and snapped it in half.

I am pretty sure it is just removing and replacing nuts and bolts, but i wasn't too sure. Never done it before, plus i didn't get to really examine it.

anyone with information on replacing the gear shifter stick?

any advice would be great help.

For now, imporvise. You'll need to find a way to shift the car out of park until you can replace the part. Then...

Get in there and take a look. Write down part #s and call the local Toyota dealership.

Don't tell them anything because they'll try to tell you what to do.

"I need part # xxxxxx, do you have one in stock?"

"No"

"Please order one for me"

I'd say the best way is to go pull one from a boneyard car. That way, if there is some goofy surprise waiting for you when you pull it apart, you will be doing it on an already junked car. If it blows up in your face, on to the next junker.

I agree with vader1. Look at your local salvage yard or find one online.. something like HAP, but for Toyota. I'm sure theres a few of them around.

Get your gf's brother some therapy or prozac.. what kinda rage does this kid have that he's breaking gear shifters?
