I'm sure that was a bit of an exageration, but they do have underwater cutting torches.

Actually not an exageration, they used large cable reels pulled through the ship, this cut the ship and everything inbetween in pieces. They where then able to pull the pieces (5+ pieces) up to the surface. If you do a quick search on that boat name there is (or used to be) a whole writeup of how it was done. Quite cool
