Default Carmax!

Has anyone bought a car at Carmax before? I am looking for a daily driver and my friend suggested Carmax. Any experiences from people who bought their cars there? Thanks!

I have had great experiences at Carmax. I have purchased two vehicles from them in the past. One of them had a problem and I was able to utilize their 5 day no questions asked return policy. It was much easier than I thought it would be. I purchased another car about 8 months later and I drove off and got a flat. They reimbursed me for a new tire and that second car turned out great.

three of my friends worked at carmax. two of them worked as a lot porter/detailer. they told me that their so-called extensive 100 point or so inspection isn't followed all the time. so don't expect a used car to be that great condition wise.

another thing to consider is that you can definitely find a better deal elsewhere. have you compared carmax prices to others? they're pretty expensive. and since there's no haggling, you'll be stuck paying higher prices. if i were you, i'd try to find a car being sold privately and by the original owner. that's your best bet there. at least the original owner can tell and maybe show you the paperwork as far as what's been done to the car. good luck.

I bought my car at Carmax in June 2005. It was a 2002 model with 4,454 miles on the odometer. I probably could have found a better price elsewhere, but not a 3+ year old car with under 5K miles.

My wife and I considered getting a car there. Then we saw the prices. One car that stuck out for me was a Scion xB. Only because I was as the Scion dealer the day before. Carmax's used price was more than a brand new one.

I can't speak for all but around here the prices do seem inflated....
