what type of crowd is Toyota trying to supply to? I think that the car that you are trying to portray won't even survive in the market for a quarter. It could be suicidal for the CEO. RWD and LSD applied to a different crowd than the economy drivers who needs airbags and ABS, wants leather and a nice little sunroof for summer nights. Bottom line - I would love to see a car like that, but in reality, the drifting crowd is very small and Toyota won't make ends meet with this kind of vehicle. Also, I dislike the styling of the celica. I venture to say that it is very feminine.

The Celica and the MR2 are discontinued.
No replacement models will be made.

how can you say for sure? Just wondering? Nobody expected Toyota to come back with a v8 supra, but plans are now in progress.

I only traded in my celica because of the front wheel drive, sometimes frustrating shifter, and lack of variety in performance parts
.
The engine was plenty peppy enough for it's weight(2300 pds with just a slight gutting of the rear)....although, having the S2k engine in that car would have been a nice step up since they are so similiar in nature to begin with. I was able to run a 14.3 quarter with just an intake, gutted rear, and removed exhaust. The handling and daily driving were also quite fun.

This thread got me thinking.
I always used to wonder, why auto makers couldn't sell the perfect car in US.
Like, 240sx s15. That would be the perfect car that fits probably all of you guys' demands.
Or, make another cheap car that will have mod potential?
I wonder if its r&d $$ that they don't want to put down, or other reasons.
Maybe, THEY want to sell the cars and make profit, not let us sell cars to each other at possibly higher prices.
Because, I'm sure there is money to be made in the younger crowd market. I would REALLY REALLY like to know their reasons for not giving us the perfect car at the perfect price.

As was mentioned before, the 140 hp GT version heavily outsold the 180 hp GTS. Both will be outsold by the heavy, 160 hp Scion tC.
