Civic Type-R plant closing

And there it is. Honda is killing off performance focused mass production cars to focus on economy vehicles and SUV's and crossovers and electric cars.

The only plant building the new Type-R is closing down

part of the title of the story - "

"The next-generation Civic hatch may be built in America."

I know the new 1.5t civic Si with a tune and bolt ons is very fast but it has no soul. In my opinion the civic hasn't been exciting since the 8th generation. The new ones look like Accords.

Looks like relocating the plant to the US - "Honda may bring production of the Civic hatchback to North America."
But - that doesn't confirm the Type R will live on either.
Unfortunately the Automotive industry's trajectory is not in the favor of people who enjoy driving for the pleasure of driving... One could write a Theseus on the subject but due to ever stringent regulations and more customer interest in space, features and tech and safety vs mechanical engineering and performance these types of vehicles are dying off slowly in the mid-market. You now need 50k+ to buy something with some spirit. Soon the will be reserved to the 100k+ market (p-cars etc)... Lambo is even building SUV's now though (just barfed in my mouth)... It's sad - but all the more reason to take great care of your precious s2k's and hold on to them as long as you can because they are literally irreplaceable (no wonder prices are rising and will continue to)...

Hey. Guys. The NSX is built in Marysville, Ohio alongside the Accord. If the Type R were to continue being built, I'd look to that location for it to happen. I know for a fact that Honda of Japan was very pleased with the NSX's quality.

there is a big civic plant in Allison, Ontario. I wouldn't be surprised if production is streamlined and moved there. I'll ask around.

in the one report I read yesterday it said Honda was pursuing the electrification of cars. Honda had some awesome cars and then killed them off one by one in favour of minivans and SUV's and family cars. Then they started to show some signs of coming back to life with the NSX and CTR, and now they may end up going back in the wrong direction.

Honda makes some Civics in Indiana.

Honda has already green-lighted the next Civic Type R (at the highest levels), per a source on Temple of VTEC. I wouldn't worry about it too much - they're selling every one they make.
