bingo. plus they had little chassis rigidity and felt like you were on a skateboard.

I love the JDM touches on the Civic Hybrid compared to the American Civic. Mine has been trouble free since purchase May 2007.

Do you really need VSA in a civic?

I wouldn't either. I still prefer the lighter-weight and simplicity of the older Civics (and just about all other car models as well).

If all I cared about were what car I'd want to be in in an accident, I wouldn't be commuting 100 miles per day in an S2000.

Well if you are worried about having to replace the battery at 125K miles, than I guess you are anticipating driving the 82K miles to recoup your cost differential from gas savings.

If you read that post again that's not the cost differential. The poster was saying with the $7000 you save you could buy gas to drive 82,000 miles in a regular civic. It would take a lot farther than 82,000 miles to make up the cost difference between a base civic and a hybrid, but that also doesn't take into account the higher content in the hybrid.

I average around 29 MPG in my civic si so I would imagine that a civic lx or ex would get high enough mpg to not make the incremental cost of the hybrid worth it.

Get a regular civic. Hybrids are for fake people, who failed math. Less maintenance, cheaper maintenance, cheaper car, less crap to go wrong, etc. There is absolutely no conceivable reason to buy a hybrid, until the day they become CHEAPER than the gas guzzling counterparts.
