I applaud Honda for reentering the enthusiast market, but the tacked on faux vents on the bumpers would do 90's Pontiac proud.

Noncompetitive against what? 0-60, sure, it's slow (as are most FWD cars) but once it's rolling, and around a track, it's pretty darn quick.

It stomps an S2000 around a track, stock for stock, and it embarasses cars around the 'Ring that have 100-200 hp more.

I wouldn't buy it, I don't think, because I prefer to drive a RWD sports car but for cheap thrills, these FWD hatches are tough to beat. This one also happens to be ugly...

i like ugly. gives it character. most of the other cars/suv's- which, come on, really all look the same and have no soul.
Further, I think people find clarkson offensive because he speaks the truth and we all know the truth hurts. I can't wait to see and drive a typeR in person. mind you, with this shiite canadian dollar right now, i'd be better off paying down my house then buying a used one in 3 years.

they just don't build bonkers cars for us nut bars anymore- its gotta have nav and cameras and blueteeth and 2 pedals and good mileage and other bullshit features that add nothing to the driving experience.

Why are all these "hot hatches" turning into "hot saloons"?
Civics, meganes, clios, astras all used to be little 3 door pocket rockets now they're all large 5 door family cars

Amen.

And I don't know why Honda is trying so hard, especially when they don't.

Couldn't be terribly difficult to drop the Civic's 1.5T into the Fit's engine bay. Or to give the Civic Si a detuned 2.0T instead of the 1.5T. Or the K20A into the defunct CR-Z.

Probably all crash testing/emissions related. Honda made a CRZ with a K, it couldn't pass crash testing, K20 is a lot taller than L15.

That and the Fit 1.5T would totally undercut the Civic.

A Fit 1.5T would obviously be a Fit Si, which isn't designed for the same buyers as a plain jane Civic. It's far from unprecedented for Honda to sell more than one model with an Si badge at the same time.

I still don't know why they don't make a large displacement V4, say 2 liters. Their motorcycle V4's are heaven, especially the 90 degree versions. They are known in the motorcycle world for being NASA and making the best V4's there are. Why not make an automotive version? Would be outstanding. If you never ridden a V4 (I have 2, one real, one virtual, and have owned a few prior) you can go to you-boob and search for VFR800 exhaust. As long as the exhaust is aftermarket you'll hear the soundtrack. They give you the low down torque of the V-twin, and upper tach of an inline 4. It would be an outstanding car engine from them, but probably cost a little more so they'll never do it. They play it too safe these days. Be original, offer something new.

I'm basing this on the Civic pricing model. The Si has traditionally been just a few hundred more than an EX-L.

For example, 2014 Civic pricing: EX-L $22,540, Si = $22,790

Looking at the current pricing on a Fit EX-L: $20,265

Who is going to bother with a $20k+ Fit Si when a Civic Si is 2-3k more? Honda would sell a fraction as many Fit Si as they would Civic Si as well. Ford sells a lot more Focus ST than they do Fiesta ST & the media raves about the Fiesta yet is lukewarm on the Focus.

Doesn't the focus RS beat this around the ring? It looks so much better too.

commnets that Honda has lost their way are spot on. The fact it beats a S2k around the track, sure hope so. That platform is over 20 years old.
