Yeah, they're excellent in low-end power, given they make max torque as soon as you start off. The only problem I think is the top end. Most of these electric cars top out around 100, and this one, even being a sports car, tops out at 130. I'm not saying you need to go much faster than that, it just leads me to believe that after the 0-60 these things aren't as quick as gas cars.
I'd still love to have one though, and can't wait to see the new technology companies come up with for electric cars over the next couple of years

Imagine a Viper/F430/z06/(input any super car) only gets to drive on only 1 or 2 gears, you get the same issue too.

Oh. Speaking of Electric cars. Did you guys see the new F1 regulations they are negoicating for the 2009 season? They are looking into hybrid design support.
So electric car (or hybrid support) will be supported by the highest racing organziation.

I read the article on this car in Wired - any idea why he equipped it with only 2 forward gears?

The 250 miles on a charge is great, as long as you are always home and not anywhere you might need to leave when it runs out. It's not like you can plug it in for 10 minutes and take off again. Electric cars are stupid until they make batteries that don't suck.

that's why they are as practical as a Lamborghini. Sure, they're great if they do what you want, but your needs don't have to change much before they become impractical. Paying a premium for a limited-use vehicle is not a new concept. But those who think EVERYONE should have one are no diferent than those who think EVERYONE would like a Lamborghini.
Limited miles on a lambo is one thing. Being stuck for 8-12 hours because I have to plug my car in...is a little different.

Yeah, but at least I can fill up my lambo in the same amount of time as my odyssey!

Toshiba already have developed a Lithium Ion battery that can recharge 80% in 1 minute. 100% recharge in 5 minute.
The battery is being deployed into power tool for this falls inventory.
Even if Tesla Motors can deploy this Toshiba battery, there is no recharge system that can give out the amount of AMPS to recharge the battery.
Battery technologies advancing very fast to where EV are going to be more practical. That cannot be said about FuelCell.
