I can see how a generation of kids brought up on video games and riced out civics might think that hard suspension and quick turning ratios along with sissified clutches and brakes that require zero effort and thus have zero effective feel for finding the threshold might make:

1. Horrible and dangerous drivers.
2. Bad judges of what good handling is and how to exploit it.
3. Postings about how Porsches don't handle as well as their (civic/neon/accord/s2000).

I'm not gonna hate on your hate towards the 997 cab, But I would like to add that the 997 Porsche is the best car I have driven.

I have driven alot of high end luxury cars from a older 360 to the newer E92 M3s as well as the older E46s to E60 M5s and the new M6's.... I can honestly say that the Porsche is by far the most driving pleasure possible amongst

The gearbox is awesome, the seating position is awesome and I love how you can see every corner of the car at every time!

why do I perceive that my cheap-ass Honda have a better shifter, a tighter suspension, and crisper handling? i expected these very points to be better in the 911. i'm not hatin' on that car either. i WANTED to LOVE it. i CAN buy a used one. i would get one in blue or like red. except, i do not want one now.

what Porsche would I like? a GT3?
Umm... sounds like good excuses to get the GT2/GT3...

In all seriousness, I think you may be comparing apple to oranges. The S is not made for Paris Hilton to go shopping with friends with the top down (no pun intended). I can't say what people do with the Carrera cab but it's less likely going to be good shifter and crisp handling. People who look for that should be looking at the GT2/GT3/GT3 RS, or at least a non "4" Coupe with the new PDK.

The S's shifter, responses, and handling feel are very very hard to beat but bear in mind the 997 has to put a lot more horsepower down. Imagine how the S will handle with a lot more torque. Something is not right if the car "slips" easily. What kind of tires did that cab had on? I'd also guess that the one you tested either don't have the PASM option or doesn't have it set to "Sport".

None of the Porsche I drove felt like the S's go-kart reflex. Porsche is more about power, grip, and confidence, and lots of it. You'll more like get something closer to the S's neutral handling feel with the Boxster & Cayman.

Let's not get crazy here. When you're talking about the cabs as the "softer cruisers" of the Carerra range, it's true - but only in a relative fashion. Even the softest Carerra (call it a C4S PDK cab) the responsiveness, power and grip are competitive with top end sports cars from most other manufacturers. The steering feel at 90% of the non AWD cars is still as good as anything out there short of a Lotus, and while the AWD cars do dial in a touch more understeer, if the "regular" Carerras have a weakness it's that they all tend toward understeer anyway.

Coming from German cars before the S, the Honda is like a toy in many ways. Not that I don't like it, but its a very different experience.

I have to say I agree with the OP. I recently drove a 996 C4 Cab. and wasn't really impressed. The power and torque felt decent, although it really didn't pull as hard as I was expecting. The car had tons of grip and the steering felt nice (although a little "loose"), but the shifter feel was pretty bad. It was a nice car, but not as OMGTWF perfect as people have led me to believe the 911 is... maybe the Turbo coupe would be better.
