Dodge Demon

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon - #ifyouknowyouknow

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon - Demon Horsepower, 0-60, 1/4-Mile

840 horsepower; 770 lb-ft of torque—the world's most powerful production car V8 engine. 2.3 seconds 0-60 (world's fastest for a production car), 5.1 seconds to 100 mph. Quarter-mile: 9.65 seconds at 140 mph, the world's fastest production car quarter-mile, as certified by the NHRA. In fact, that's so dang fast, Dodge says the car is "officially banned by the NHRA" for being too quick for a production car to run at a drag strip without a cage.

And yes, shockingly, this is all covered by Dodge's three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and, even more astoundingly, the automaker's six-year, 60,000-mile drivetrain warranty.

Dodge will build only 3000 Demons for the U.S. market, and 300 for Canada, in the 2018 model year. Production begins in late summer, with delivery to dealerships taking place this fall. Pricing has not yet been announced, though however much it costs, each buyer will get a free day of driver training at Bob Bondurant School of High-Performance Driving.

Insane. I'll admit that I don't understand the mentality of taking your stock car to the dragstrip in a package that makes it less-than-usable on the street....but still neat! "Just because" is a good enough reason for me, when it comes to cars. :D

I can't get excited about these things. Insane? Sure. Drag car right from the dealer? Yeah. But it just screams FCA/Dodge/Chrysler is making a desperate attempt to get noticed while they continue to lose cash, and all their non-truck and suv models spiral down the sales toilet. Its a huge publicity stunt from a failing brand.

But I am the guy who thinks the Civic Si would make a decent cheap commuter so .............

Cool car. I'd never buy it, but nice to see them push the envelope. I was really hoping to see them make an SRT Dart with AWD, I didn't mind the looks and 300hp AWD would have been a cool little ride. Oh well.

I think it's a pretty cool engineering effort that has resulted in a very fast drag car. If it's priced around $85k it's a great offering for folks who like to drag race. It has flash backs to the late 60's or early 70s. Love how they offer the seats for $1 to add them back in. That's a real node to their client base.

While FCA is loosing money this is probably the best car launch in recent times. All out records, not leaked, in a feature film and will be on sale shortly? That's amazing. I love this execution alone. I won't own one (likely) but I have a lot of respect for the focus it took to build it.

Any other brand you're aware of that is so in your face focused on cars? Ford and Chevy doing well, but Honda, Toyota, Subaru and even Nissan have all but lost their ways. P cars remain the same, largely unchanged.

It's interesting to note that the company making an mega-interesting (niche) car is getting out of cars and has basically run itself into the ground. What does that tell you?

i dig the 707hp jeep

I dig it. I like the entire hellcat line up.

Selling boring cars to boring people is what pays the bills.

In some ways, not much.

It's not like the reason FCA built a shitty Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 is because engineering resources were spent instead on the Hellcat Demon.
