my brother went from an E36 M3 to an E90 335i. At the end of the day, he found his E36 to be more enjoyable and missed it. The only thing the 335i has going for it is torque and power, but coming from an S2000 you should know that that does not dictate how enjoyable and fun a car is, or even how fast it is around a road course/auto-x course.
E46 M3 in a 6-speed traditional 3-pedal car.
Edit: something changed, and I no longer know how to insert youtube videos into posts. it used to be simply copy and pasting the link directly as is - no coding necessary.

Considering the performance strides BMW makes to each iteration of the 3 series, that M3 won't be as exciting in another 3-4 years yet you may be paying top money for it monthly on it. BMW has not impressed much on higher mileage, out of warranty cars. You should be able to find indy BMW shops that are much less than the dealership for servicing.
An M is M, and least you got that going for it! I'd search long and hard for the right colors and condition.

This a very difficult decision. These 2 cars are a world of difference! U can read everyones posts and read all the reviews u want but the only way ur going to actually know what u like is to go drive both of cars. Dont let people try and convince u on what ur going to like. Drive both and make a desision on what u want to spend ur hard earned money on. Another thing, get the word "Cheap" out of ur head! It does not exist! BMW's are high end cars that require expensive preventative maintenance and expensive repairs when things brake. Old or new its not going to be cheap.
Now as for me, I've driven both cars numerous times and I personally would take the 135. To me its just an all around better car. Just my opinion and I know a lot of people are going to disagree. As far as the M3 goes...ITS A FREAKIN M3! Cant go wrong with that either! Tough desision, good luck!

I had both. 2002 M3 with 28k miles and 2007 335i coupe with 30k miles, fully loaded too. (same engine, pretty similar performance to 135i). Both very nice, 335i is newer, less outdated, much nicer inside, better navi, better sound, better materials, mod friendly and fast, also underrated and makes close to 300hp to the wheels (350+ with a tune). E46 M3 is old now, more fun to drive, LSD, high-rev engine is great. Both were unreliable, I would've picked M3 for 2nd time maybe....but I bought 335i because it had warranty. I would've probably picked Z4M over my S2000 too, but reliability scared me away.
After 1 year of driving 335i which made about 340hp it got a bit boring, i dont remember ever getting bored of M3
service cost for both is about the same.

and now it gets more tougher since I read all the comments
but why only 05 or 06 model for M3 recommand?
cause of recall stuff?

Because they're the last years of the E46 - should have less "age-related" problems than older E46s.

don't E46's have a frame issue, that was only resolved in the last 2 years? that might be it
imo, the 1 series is tied for most hideous BMW with the X1, whereas the E46 M3 is regarded as the pinnacle of the "traditional" BMW 3 series both in styling and performance with the trademark BMW I6 engine. i'd go for the E46 M3 without any hesitation between the two

If I was to buy M3 , it would be 2005-06 with competition pkg.
And you also should find out if BMW fixes those subframes issues for free etc. BMW is pretty good fixing shit for free, but not issuing recalls because it ruins reputation
