E46 M3 vert or SC S2k?
#13
ha, nice try fellas. I need to keep a semi-luxury comfortable daily driver that is trouble free and the IS350 fits that bill.
some of you guys do make a good point. I should go drive the M3 vert first, maybe i'll hate it and get the coupe instead.
actually i may just try to keep the s2k (but no SC) and pick up the M anyways. so really the question is which 2 cars get the garage?

Uggh...here we go again. What maintenance exactly are you referring to that is such a 'bitch'? I recently sold my heavily modified E46 M3 with about 100K miles on the clock and the car was never in the shop for anything other than routine maintenance. Not once did my rotors need replaced and I was on my 2nd set of pads when I sold the car. Stock tires cost SLIGHTLY more than S02's that came stock on my S2000. BMW recommends an 'Inspection' about every 30K miles and that includes a valve adjustment if needed and those inspections run about $1,500-2K depending on what all is being done at the time. I have never been a big fan of the E46 M3 vert...drive one back to back with a coupe and they feel like different cars, the weight of the vert really makes a big difference.
and you just said yourself the inspections run 1500 - 2000
an oil change from Tischer is in the 80-90 dollar range (for oil and filter)...
and how about the rear subframe being torn out from many E46s?
how about the cooling system problems with the coolant reservoir tank?
granted you've seen a very rare and troublefree 100k, but you are one of the few!
I was a 330i owner and I am still a big part of the E46fanatics community...
the on going settlement is huge between BMWNA and they have even resorted to fix the car if it isn't modded... which are a few...
you need to realize that the honda is a substantially better investment in terms of operating cost...
Even though I am in love with the M3 vert and sooner or later will have one in my driveway (after the s2k ofcourse) The M3 is and will always be a high maintenance vehicle... They drive great and feel awesome and you get that satisfaction of owning a permium vehicle... that is why I leaned towards it in my first post... cause if your going to ball out, go all out!

Inspection 1 is every 15 k Miles and at 30K its inspection 2... and you need to go in and do them... at any dealership they take the cover off and check valve clearances... doing an inspection 2 on an m3 will never run you less then 700 dollars and that is a guarantee.

^they CAN be & I've seen some that hit 125k+ trouble free but then theres also the majority that aren't so reliable. You sir ARE one of the few, I'm currently battling coolant & random electrical problems as well on my e46. BTW dealer quoted me $1300 just to change the rotors & brake pads. Definetly not looking forward to when the Vanos system goes out
Totally agree with omairtheman1 & I too am on e46fanatics.com

I wouldn't say more fun but probably just as fun with more power. If you're cross shopping the m3 and a supercharger, i'd just sell the s2k and get a Z4M like jaques stated above.
