I have a ford focus too, and i just bought a new battery for it drove for a week and now my car dies.

I have tried to diagnosis what might be the problem and i have come up with a conclusion now i wil see if you guysc an help me out.

Anyway i got a new battery, and my connection to the battery on the + , - charge connectors were corroded, i clean it up.

now my car does not start up at all, nothing powers up too except for radio and the daylight saving light.(but sometimes it doesn't)

when i turn the ignition it, i can hear the starter turn over and a bunch of series of clicking sound.(car won't start)

when i jump start it with my s2000, the car starts up right away.


Do you think its the alternator?

Bad corroded connector cables?

well now i will out there with a voltmeters and check all the voltage to make sure what the problem is before i buy a part and fix it myself,

the only part if i have a bad corroded connector cables, i don't know how to change that [+] cable and the [-] cable.

You either have a bad battery or a bad connection to your battery.

When you cleaned your battery terminals, did you remove the cable and wire brush the posts and connectors? If not, you need to do this. Just because it looks clean doesn't mean that it has a good connection.

How old is your battery? Did you check the electrolyte level?

I'd say the cables are causing the issue

If your brand new battery died in a week, then either the alternator isn't re-charging the battery (due to alternator problem or faulty wiring connections) or you have a short that is draining the battery while the car is shut down. After you get the car running, check voltage at the battery terminals. If its about 14VDC, then the alternator is working. If its less than that by any significant amount, then you have a problem with your alternator or wiring. The connections at the battery posts are critical, and must make good contact to allow current to flow.
