Finally traded my old beater! For a C4 vette!
So after looking and looking, I have finally come across a car to do some restoration on. My budget was pretty much an even trade for my explorer sport. My explorer has a ton of miles, needs paint, and losing value like a used condom... so after trolling craigslist... i found a car and the owner took the trade! I went and picked it up yesterday
My new project.. a 1984 C4 Corvette. Its way better than the Explorer, its holding value well, parts are pretty cheap, and its easy to work on. Below are pics of it....
So things it needs to get done..
New transmission installed (new one is included in the deal)
New Rack and Pinion installed (new one also included in the deal)
New brake booster ($100 bucks at any parts store)
Brake job
Minor interior work (couple pieces missing here and there)
A full exhaust system (stock one is rusted out)
New weatherstripping
And of course a paint job. Got a friends shop locally that will do it for $600.
Some parts hes throwing in the deal
New headers, new twin throttle bodies, spare diff, freshly rebuilt transmission, new rack and pinion.
My friend and I will install the new tranny, torque conver, Rack and Pinion, and brake stuff within the next two weeks, which then it will become my DD. Ill then save some $$, get the exhaust, weatherstripping, and then have it painted. LMK what you guys think.

Ditch the CrossFire and put a carb on it. You will be MUCH happier. I have owned 3 C4 vettes. They take some extra love but can be a nice car with some work. Like you said parts are cheap for them now too. The only thing that I hate on them is the wiring. They are a nightmare if you have a problem. Just think, where most cars have one wire to power something and it grounds to the chassis, vettes have 2 wires, because everything is fiberglass. Also make sure they are careful when sanding the car for paint. You dont want to get past the top coating on the fiberglass. Ask me how I know.

I still like these cars. As long as you black out the windows so no one can see the interior they can look somewhat modern. I'd just chop those mufflers off all together. lose the wing, and update the wheels. After a clean paint job you'll have a nice looking DD.

One of my friends and I were talking about color choices, how does White with the Black Targa top, and the C6 Z06 wheels in black, gunmetal, or chrome? Clean up the black interior a bit too and it would look amazing.
As for the exhaust, I was thinking the four tips zr1 style. heres a pic i just took during lunch showing both my babies

Congrats on the new project car.
C4 vettes are pretty easy to work on.
I had an '85 for about 10 years. I sold it after I bought the S. I had a Borla exhaust on it. It was fun driving through parking garages and setting off car alarms with it.
Be prepared for various plastic bits breaking on the car. Most electrical connecters will break when you undo them. At least it's easy to get parts for it.

Looks like a fun project, though I must admit that it is an odd choice. It is essentially a slower, worse handling, version of your mustang that has less storage, and fewer seats.
I do like the number of v8's per car that you have though. A 1:1 ratio is just about perfect.
