Huh? Have you seen the performance figures for the LFA?

Pretty sure the statement says "that DOES NOT have a Lexus badge on it"

I was just at the Honda dealer to pick up a part, and next door is a Mazda dealership. They had a retractable hardtop Miata with $31k+ on the sticker.

It occurs to me that if Mazda can sell enough 2500 lb./167hp Miatas at $23k min up to over $31k max, surely Toyota should be able to sell a few ~2800 lb./200hp 2+2 FT-86 at the low to middle end of that price range.

Have you seen the price? Not to mention the fact that they're losing money on each one?

The LFA was a secret project as well - Toyota never wanted it, but decided to go to market with it, and now it has this F performance parts for you to bolt on to your other Lexus, which makes no sense to me since most Toyota buyers that have Lexuses don't have them for the performance characteristics.

The joke was that the LFA isn't fast. I await the next few posts that still don't get the joke to say "Bu-bu-but it is fast!"

The R&D on higher mileage will go down to the drain when drivers drive the car with the pedals to the metal!

Substantially increase the price of the entry level sport car for a lousy few mpg bump to the point that it moves to another market segment is just dumb.

That is why you don't let the bean counters mess with your new products.

Sorta like the story of the BMW 1 series coupe.

plans/rumors/fanboy dreams:
lightweight
true entry level price
simplicity, marketed towards grassroots enthusiasts

reality:
pretty much as heavy as anything else out there
priced within a few $k at most from other offerings
loaded up with luxury crap/bloated size to appeal to women/boomers

we all got our hopes up for nothing...
