Too many brands. My idea for GM 10 years ago (before they decided to start buying up other brands) was this
1. Axe Pontiac
2. Axe GMC Truck (What's the point of re badged chevys?)
3. Axe Buick (Can't shed old fart image)
Now you have your everyday cars & trucks (Chevy) and luxury (Caddy)
Let's look at the successful brands from Japan that have 2 major brand lineups
Toyota & Lexus
Honda & Acura
Nissan & Infiniti (Nissan has had a nice turnaround in recent years)
Sound simple but there are TOO many cars in their portfolio. Just my $.02

I agree with you, but I'd brand all the HD trucks and large SUVs like the Suburban as GMCs. Three brands seems like a good number.

ie. Vauxhaul and Saab in Europe. And Holden in Australia.
And the Saturn thing. It is nothing but Chevy rebadging in most cases.
