FIRSTLY: sorry for the low quality of the video! My friend rode shotgun and recorded. and obviously a camera phone's microphone can't handle the tones coming from the exhaust so it sounds like it's going to explode. The exhaust sounds 1000x cleaner than this video shows.

Took the E30 to practice drift/time attack night at a local small track (Adams Motorsport Park). What a blast! She did extremely well, especially considering she had so so tires (Falken Azeni RT615's) and street pads (they faded 2-3 laps in so I had to take it easy and not push it hard.)

I got about 20 laps in so it was very fun. Only trouble happened when the brakes just wanted to give out in the 2nd and 3rd session. I could've ran a 4th but didn't want to risk it.

About the handling: WOW. Holy shot. No suspension slop, no body roll, NOTHING. the cornering is flat and completely ON RAILS. The responsiveness is just jaw dropping. What a f@#king fantastic handling car. And it has so much power that it just rips through the straights.

Luckily the gearing was just perfect and I never had to shift out of second. Unfortunately 90% of my attentio. was drawn to the brakes and the extremely early braking I had to do.

Other than that, I am blown away. Much like a Miata or S2000, this car just rips through the corners with extreme balance and speed. I cannot even imagine how incredible it'd be with some Hankook RS-3's and some GOOD track brake pads. I'm going to work on making that all happen.

Next stop: Buttonwillow and Chuckawalla!

Pretty tough NOT to like this car.

I LOVE it. Congratulations!

I knew someone back in high school that had one of these cars. The car looked stock as hell, needed paint, had door dings everywhere, but that little 3 series would tear up the streets. He never discussed what was done to the car but everyone knew it wasn't the original 4 banger in his 318. I completely forgot about him and that car but now I know he must have had this engine in his car.

Looks like your having fun with it already. Congrats.

Thanks Marco, I ordered some M105 and M205 but if you've got some nicer stuff, I'd love to test it out.

Thanks Ryne! I feel the EXACT same way about your 240Z. <3 What a classic beast.

Yeah, he probably did have an M50/S50/S52 swap. The engines are absolute monsters even with just a little work in such light chassis. I'm having a blast with this car, it is so surprisingly fast and it handled extremely well on the track. I make excuses just to drive it around or make 'extra' trips to drive it more.

Unfortunately I am quite addicted to the power and grip of the car and am dreaming of ways to increase grip/braking (Hankook RS3's and EBC Yellows? mmmm) and increase power (supercharger @ 6-8 psi? 300-350 whp, mmm). A friend of mine can get me a Vortech-equipped VF S/C kit for $1800 and all I'd need is injectors and a retune... it is tempting.

Also, my carbon fiber hood came with a lot of oxidization...

So I claybarred it, used Meguiars M105 on an orange pad with my Porter Cable DA polisher, and here are the results. Left is before, right is after.
