Interesting - I wonder how it will actually work out since high speed and aero are so important to the car's handling.

In before Nunco...

Honda began racing in Formula 1 in 1964, and won a grand prix with Richie Ginther driving in the 1965 Mexico race. The team would withdraw after the end of the 1968 season, prompted mainly by driver Jo Schlesser’s untimely death at the wheel of a Honda Grand Prix car. The Honda marque would return to the pinnacle of motorsport in 1983 by supplying engines to existing teams, eventually winning 6 constructors championships and five driver championships before bowing out again in 1992.

At first I was bummed out when I read Honda took the engine out of it before selling. Then I was slightly less bummed out when I read this:

"To provide power for the car, F1snake eventually decided on a Hartley enterprises built H1 V8. The H1 V8 is essentially two Suzuki Hayabusa engines mated at the crank to turn the two inline fours into a V8. The miniscule 2.8 liter V8 should produce around 500 horsepower in a relatively inexpensive package that is nearly the same dimensions as the outgoing F1 engine."

I saw this before, very cool. In the US I think I would go old Indy Lites (later Infinity Pro Series) first. The IPS cars lap tracks as fast as the Audi LMP cars, are relatively speaking reasonable to service and probably something an very good amateur could handle. I look at an F1 car like a very high performance WW2 fighter. They are probably great if you have the skills but perhaps too demanding for us mortals (this guy may not be a mortal). If you look carefully you can see a Viper V10 in the back of the car.

Years ago I was at a track test day. I was there with a Formula Atlantic team. There was also a F Ford guy there as well as some local hobbiests who bought an early 90s Indy car with one of those 750+ hp Buick turbo V6s. The guys had far and way the fastest car on the track but were actually scared of the thing. At one point they waved the FF past! The FF driver later commented about passing an Indy car in his 116hp car. Anyway, for those who want track day toys, forget road based cars. Projects like this are the ultimate in track day toys and certainly provide more bang for the buck... well maybe not in the case of some F1 models.

I don't think that an F1 car can pull more G's than a fighter jet. It can pull 9G's. I don't think an F1 can pull off that kind of feat.

I'm pretty sure it's a woman too... not a man.

edit: looks like this is a different car

double edit : same person, but it looks like they scrapped the viper engine idea.

Keep in mind that there is a big difference also in the way the G's go through the body in a fighter jet vs. a racecar. In a jet they are vertical, mostly from the top of your head down through the body. In a formula car since you are rarely on a steep bank they go though the body laterally, from side to side so different muscles are used. While I have no experience in a fighter jet I do have several years in winged formula cars and I have talked to several people who have done both. They claim that it is harder to handle the G's in the formula car. That has nothing to do with how many G's either will pull, just an observation.

BTW, while I would love to have an F1 car I expect the former Ralf Schumacher F3 I currently have will challenge me enough.

Also, I believe that a woman in the UK was putting a Viper V10 in a F1 car and planning to run Goodwood in it. Not sure if she pulled it off or not.
