I did get a base Macan as a loaner last week. I've put about 250 miles on it so far. It feels like a larger and heavier car than my GLC 300, although curb weights are pretty comparable. The Macan's steering is heftier, ride is a bit firmer, and the overall feel is sportier. The Porsche turbo four seems to have more turbo lag, is not as free revving, and is coarser than the turbo four in the Mercedes. I far prefer the brake feel with the Mercedes. The Porsche pedal is mushy through its initial travel, and caused me to push down too hard and overbrake on more than a few occasions. It's far easier to modulate gentle braking on the more linear Mercedes pedal travel. Base model vs base model, I'd keep my GLC over the Macan.

Picked up a Macan Turbo few weeks ago.
It's a blast for an SUV-lite.
Adjustable height, adjustable suspension levels, very quick shifts....400hp awd.
And...it should tow my boat 3 miles to the launch

Exactly, No car company can survive selling 20,000 sports cars/yr without a broader product line to defray the base costs.

If I wanted a great truck/suv their are many better choices and values. The badge does sell however as I saw more than a few Cayennes pulling trailers with GT3s on them ( at least before the '08 crash)

Driven a Macan turbo, it was pretty fun and quick from low speeds. At highway speeds it wasn't that impressive. If you want a smallish 'car' but want to sit higher up and carry a little bit more stuff it's not a bad option if you have the cash to blow.

The macan s is such a better value for the money over the turbo. Theyre both v6 twin turbo, the s has 360hp whereas the turbo has 400hp. Ive driven both and they feel very similar. Now the base model macan with the 4cyl turbo feels like a can. Anyhow, a $500 ecu tune on the s and you can easily exceed 400hp.
