My best ever tankful was 351.8 miles on 11.2 gallons in my '01 (richest factory tune?) => 31.4 mpg
Winter fuel makes a big difference, I've gone from ~26-28 average down to 24-26.
Too much toe-in can also hurt fuel economy. I run zero front toe, minimal rear (~0.2 degrees total).

I stand by my original statement. The mere fact that you can beat on this car and get > 20 mpg, reliability, and ease of service is great. It's why I chose it over a vette, boxster, mustang, etc.
Why are these merits lost on a new generation?
A replacement s2k does not need to succumb to the dick measuring horsepower war of the muscle cars. There are a billion miatas and now brz/frs on the road that attest to this fact. A great car does not need gizmos and 400hp, it just needs to be great. Have it priced right for the intended market, some decent marketing behind it (did you see any s2k ads in the last few years of its life?), plus the merits of the s2k I mentioned above and there is a winner.
