Hopefully the marketing geeks and bean counters at Honda know what they are doing, and this doesn't translate into vehicles having cheaper build quality. To me shared platforms seem to be hit or miss and eventually all models end up looking and driving the same.

Agreed. Hopefully, this gives Honda the time to really make each model special in a unique way and not feel as cut and dry.

One of our autocross friends works for Honda engineering in Alliston. He noted that once the first year comes out, they start looking at ways to trim costs of production. The previous generation Honda civic was a good example of poor build quality in a honda product- they pushed the cost cutting to a point that that model suffered.

^ that's what I was worried about, the cars just feel less substantial as they move to inferior parts. If they ever put the Accord and Civic on the same platform things will get very confusing, and sales could suffer.

They're already on the same platform.
