if a car company tries to be like someone else (in this case, Honda trying to chase Toyota), they won't innovate, they'll just become the other company and follow the competition's lead. Think about Mazda- they beat their own drum and produce interesting products. Subaru used to have it, they've lost it- WRX/STi not withstanding.
Honda's new CEO is pushing to make the driver and driving a part of the equation again. Thank goodness for that. In the first time since 2000 when I bought my SiR, Honda has finally produced a car (the TypeR), that I want to actually own- again, s2000 notwithstanding. True, a car company has to make money, but for the past 18 years, they've alienated enthusiasts.
Thanks for posting a great article that finally calls Honda out. Too bad Honda didn't ask for my opinion when the 2001 Civic came out- i'd have given them an earful.

Some of us have been saying this for the past ten years. At least someone seems to be admitting there's a problem finally.
It was also interesting to see the market share comparisons from that Reuters article; I remember the flak Hyundai got back in 2008, but now it beats Honda in market share almost everywhere globally.

I shared this article to my Facebook page and didn't get a single "like" or comment. That struck me as very odd as I have quite a few car-centric friends. Seems like the enthusiasts gave up on Honda.

I like how you made up a conclusion entirely based on nothing!

I'll believe it when I see it. Promises after promises, they give us crap like the CR-Z, 2nd gen Insight (which was supposed to derail the Prius), Accord Crosstour, etc. Their idea of innovation is the Odyssey's built-in vacuum.

Same here. Have seen numerous articles about how Honda's going to get their mojo back.
I currently own 5 older Honda/Acuras and I'll believe it when I see it.
Until I see more than one "Type S" line then I'll say there're back. If I was younger, I'd say Type R or nothing, but I'm a lot older now than before.
