How often do you buy a new or used car?
Just wondering how long some of you hold on to your new or used vehicle for. What has been the reasons for selling your car/motorcycle and how many have you all had in your life time?
I am currently 25 years old. This is my 16th vehicle. I've been buying and selling since I was 17, usually out of boredom and wanting something new. Most of the time I get close or more to what I paid for it. From start to now, I have owned:
1991 Toyota Celica GT-S, 5spd(First car, it was green with a couple dents)
2003 Chevy Silverado, auto
1996 Ninja 250 (First bike, I got into riding when I was about 18)
1996 Jeep Wrangler, 5 spd, 4 cyl.
2000 Honda CBR f4i
2005 Kawasaki zx6r
2003 Toyota Celica, 5 spd
2004 Saab 93 turbo, auto
2000 Honda s2000 (white on red)
2005 Subaru WRX STI (all stock)
1981 Toyota Pickup, 5spd (Loved this little truck, but it had too many problems...)
1999 Honda Accord, v6, auto. (Girlfriend at the time rear ended a mustang. The AC broke in my car and it started to turn off and on randomly. I sold it and lost about 2000$. She did not take responsibility)
2001 Honda s2000 (Spa Yellow)
2005 Daytona 675 (Wanted to ride again for a season)
2010 Toyota Tacoma, 5spd, 4cyl, 4x4. (Sold this one because of the lack of power and space).
1994 Toyota 4runner, auto, 2wd. (current vehicle. I wanted to experience a utilitarian vehicle with plenty of space. So far I love it).
My list of cars that I've owned is no where close to being an impressive list of high value vehicles; however, it is a good experience getting behind the wheel and daily driving this small variety.

When I was 25 I bought several used cars over the space of a couple of years. Final car in that era was new. I only buy new cars now and only replace them when they're worn out or wrecked. The used S2000 being the only exception in at least 30 years.

Family cars - drive them till they fall apart or someone hits us and totals it (has happened twice so far). My wife's Civic is 8 years old and we bought it brand new. We just bought her a minivan yesterday and I'll use her Civic as a daily driver (in the winters, at least) until it breaks or for two years, when my daughter starts to drive.
Sports cars - I usually change them out every two years.

I rarely keep a car for longer than a year...has really depended on my financial situation at any given time in my life so far but here's the list from first to current over the past 10 years I've been driving.
1997 Civic LX Sedan (traded in on IS300)
2001 Lexus IS300 (traded in on Si)
2008 Civic Si Sedan (totaled)
2008 BMW 335i Coupe (traded in on 135i)
2008 BMW 135i (sold)
1997 Civic EX Coupe (B18C swapped. sold)
2013 Hyundai Elantra (traded on Civic LX)
2013 Civic LX Sedan (traded on S2000)
1991 Mustang LX Notchback (sold)
2004 S2000 (current)
1991 Civic Hatchback (current)
I plan on keeping the current two for awhile. I'm happy with them! (who knows how long this will last)
