Wow, so the Equus doesn't come with an owner's manual, in print form at least. It comes with an iPad:

Maybe its me, but i have a mental block - if im spending more than 20k, im not stopping by the Hyundai dealership
If you want to see a really cool off-brand car go look at the Suzuki Kizashi (?). We set my Lexus is250 side by side and compared feature for feature and the Suzuki beat it for $20k less and it felt even sportier and beat it in a drag race.
BUT selling it when I'm tired of it would be a chore. Same issue with KIA.
You buy Kia to get a cheap car, and you shop the "reputable" brands for an expensive one. It's not a matter of features, it's public confidence and resale.

They said the same thing when Hyundai started to try and compete with Camry and Accord with the Sonata. Hyundai was just just what you got if you couldn't afford a Civic. Today I see a lot of Sonatas on the road. They said the same thing with the Genesis. They don't seem to be having an awful lot of trouble moving them. I don't know how many are the V8 (which starts at 40,000).
Then again, I'm not really a badge snob. If I can get a car that's similarly nice to a Lexus or Mercedes from Hyundai or Honda for $10,000-15,000 less? Count me in. I've got enough self-confidence that I don't need my purchase to be validated by the rest of the world based on perceived brand image. I'm buying a car, not a badge.

I saw the Equus at the New York auto show in 2009. It was very impressive. Hyundai was set up right across the aisle from Mercedes and they had the Equus on a rotating platform with the doors open. Ya know, I couldn't see a lot of difference between the Hyundai and an S Class Mercedes. Styling inside and out, materials quality, fit-n-finish, and powertrain specs all seemed pretty damned good. Give credit where credit is due. This ain't yer early 90's Korean car..
