I'm currently DD'ing a 2015 FRS that I've modded with the usual bolt ons (catback, intake, ST coils, 57Xtreme wheels with 245 tires). I would say the braking and handling of the car is on par with the S2k but wholeheartedly agree that the powerplant is lacking in excitement. Both my AP1 and my STI make you want to go fast and reward you for revving it up to redline... the FRS seems indifferent and lethargic. Forced Induction would likely help to solve the problem, but that isn't in the cards for me as a temporary DD. I'll feel no regrets parting the car out and selling it when the time comes to move back home and resume DD'ing the STI.

Stock braking hardware on the FRS/BRZ is far superior to the S2000. If you include the Subaru performance pack they're not even on the same planet.

Why did you switch to 245 section width tires? Your car would feel faster if you removed the unsprung (and rotational) weight you added via the wider tires and wheels. Gas mileage would improve as well.

Feel is subjective, that aside, id rather have the car actually be faster then just feel faster. In my experience, added mechanical grip from tire width goes a lot further on this car all considered, then a few pounds here or there on un sprung weight. That option is something the BRZ has more trouble with without going widebody, as well as its weaker heart to as effectively spin them.

The S2000 has appropriate brakes for the stock car, some would argue for more, and I agree they could be better. A twin piston front and back would have been nice. But necessary for its intended use? No.

I agree the car felt somewhat "quicker" with the stock 215s, but at the end of the day it's still a slow car. I knew that going into the purchase, especially when I'm used to DD'ing a 315whp/370wtq STI.

Since the car will always feel slow to me, I thought I'd be better off working on the handling so that back-roads and on/off ramps are a little more fun. The car really feels great around corners now with the 245 setup and the 57xtremes look worlds better than the hideous stock wheels.

Yeah I agree. I said the BRZ has superior brakes to the S2000. They were lifted directly off of the WRX. Larger diameter than S2000 rotors, vented front and rear, and dual piston front calipers. S2000's brakes are the same as those found on the 9th gen Civic Si ...sigh.

Also Subaru of America can go f*ck themselves.

Took them TWO YEARS to just give the US the forgettable tS package that Japan got in 2015? FFS are they even trying these days?

I saw that this morning. Yet another handling/appearance pkg with no added power, in a car where the former is already very good and the latter not so much. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Apparently it's not even as extensive of a tS model as the JDM one. Lacking upgraded bushings, structural reinforcements to the chassis (beyond a few bars under the hood) and a special exhaust.
